Prepare for a watered down version of the street art anyone cares about, where political statements that may cause offense are too much.

Deitch's inglorious stumbling included asking Blu to play along. Blu was quoted by the LA Times:

It is censorship that almost turned into self-censorship when they asked me to openly agree with their decision to erase the wall. In Soviet Union they were calling it 'self-criticism.'

Deitch invited me to paint another mural over the one he erased, and I will not do that.

See the backstory.

Another great billboard takeover done this weekend as part of the New York Street Advertising Takeover (NYSAT); one of I Am's Muybridge sequences

Back in April Jordan Seiler's Public Ad Campaign organized a takeover of about 120 illegal billboards in NYC; each was whitewashed, and repainted by an artist.
Yesterday was round two; this time another 114 billboards were targeted; some of the results are below:

Unfortunately the illegal billboard companies (chief offender: NPA Outdoor) swiftly reclaimed a lot of the billboards with fresh low-budget ads.

Read more of the story on the New York Times, the Public Ad Campaign's website, and see more images on Animal NYC and The Street Spot.

One of the billboards from the nyc illegal billboard takeover I liked most was the skateboard jump progression.
It turns out the artist ('I Am') did a couple of others too - a high five and raising a sign introducing himself

artist: I AM
location: NYC

120 illegal billboards whitewashed around nyc this weekend, and then used as blank canvases by artists; this is one of my favorites.
