The opening of Roa's LA solo show did not disappoint; a big warehouse space was filled with large-scale peaceful animals in various states of slumber or decay. A huge fox lying over a pile of mice is the central mural, and several lenticular screens broke up the space. There's a lot more work in the show than included in this post - it's definitely worth seeing in person (
details here - it only runs through November 24th), or there are
some more images on flickr.

Dan Baldwin -
Disillusion
Dan's work includes so many elements - collage, screenprint, painting & ceramics - all with striking juxtapositions of images. Delicate ceramics with guns and skulls; dogs and kids alonside body parts and razor blades. It's a really nice blend of vibrant, colorful work with an overtone of mortality.

The London Police
'Brothers in Arms' opened this evening at the Carmichael Gallery in West Hollywood (see the preview + preparations
here). You can see how good the art is from these images; what you won't see is the energy Chaz & Bob brought to the night - not least through their hilarious mini movie, which hopefully will be online soon. They exude a lust for life that is reflected in the LADS.

The shows run until October 1;
